PCProfile Discovery Audit

PCProfile Discovery Audit runs from the desktop, a USB or as commandline script and is under 250K in size and requires no database library to identify executable files loaded on any Windows PC based system, from Win NT/2000 to Win 7. No installation is required, User Manual is 1 page and no updates are required.

The tool is designed to collect the raw audit data very fast for auditors so that you can then upload the files into whatever database you use eg; Oracle, SAP, SQL Server etc or even for using ACL for consolidation etc.

This raw audit data can be converted in a few minutes from large numbers of raw data files into a full dashboard reporting and drilldown capability with NO LIMITATION on the number of PCs that have been audited. Unlike using Excel based systems that peg out at the numbers of rows this will cater for 50,000 PCs' with 3,000 rows in each PC (although in this case it will take a few hours to generate the overall view of the enterprise.)

Most sites are today running a Standard Operating Environment and really need to focus their energies on the areas of the business that are departing from the SOE baseline.

PC Profile Dashboard Reporting covers the total landscape of a PC (beyond software) so as to lower the cost of audits and reduce risk of other items such as movies, images etc as well. For sites running SOE they are already finding this approach far outstrips what they have been dealing with in the past, and has allowed them to prune back their level of effort required as they focus on "anomalies" rather than 100% of the population..

It doesn't remove the need to manage assets, or look critically at better license usage (we aren't going to tackle these areas) but it does allow for a helicopter level viewpoint from a 30,000 foot perspective so that you can zero in on the miscreants or out of band players and clean these up 1st!

PCProfile has been aware for some time that there are very few audit tools on the market that allow for a very fast audit to be undertaken by an auditor to allow them to examine the key data structures on a PC.

What we kept hearing from the auditor community was that they needed an audit tool that; required NO installation was small in size did not require training could run on both XP and Vista based systems and did not require updating. PCProfile Discovery Applications does NOT need installation or user manual to operate and can be run in GUI mode from the desktop by clicking on the icon and generates CSV files that allows you to use your own database consolidation tool such Crystal Reports/Access/Oracle/SAP/SQL Server etc for slicing and dicing the data to suit your own Software Asset Management systems. .

PCProfile Discovery Applications works on Vista, XP, NT and Win2000 32 bit systems. It is small, and fast, by design. No software identification database is used. If we can’t detect the detail we populate the record detail with “no data” as a comment. This isn’t a failing of our approach, it’s just that the software industry programmers who develop software (including Microsoft) don’t follow their own rules and don’t populate the data needed to identify all the files. We do NOT rely on the Registry as that is unreliable and an incomplete picture of what is on a system although we do add that detail as separate file.
